2. Roles

Customer (Buyer)

The individual who purchases the Services and provides information to initiate the storytelling experience.

Storyteller (Participant)

The individual invited to share stories, voice recordings, images, and related content.

The Customer and Storyteller may be the same person or different individuals.
 

3. Information We Collect

We collect information from both Customers and Storytellers as described below.

a. Information Provided by the Customer

The Customer may provide:

• Their full name

• Their email address

• Their phone number

• Shipping address for delivery of the keepsake book

• Number of books or additional copies requested

• Gift delivery timing (such as when a welcome or gift message should be sent)

• The Storyteller’s full name (in English or Chinese)

• The Storyteller’s email address

• The Storyteller’s preferred name, family title, or form of address

• The Storyteller’s language and script preferences (e.g., Simplified or Traditional Chinese)

b. Payment Information

Payments are processed through third-party payment providers, including Stripe.

LIAN does not store full credit card numbers. However, we may receive limited transaction-related information such as:

• Billing name

• Email address

• Payment status

• Transaction identifiers

c. Information Provided by the Storyteller

The Storyteller may provide:

• Voice recordings submitted over time

• Written responses (if provided)

• Uploaded photos or images (optional)

• Photo descriptions, captions, or notes (optional)

This content is referred to as “User Content.”

d. Technical Information

We may automatically collect limited technical information, such as:

• IP address

• Device type and browser

• Submission timestamps and activity data

4. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

• Provide and deliver the Services

• Contact Storytellers using information provided by the Customer to invite them to participate

• Send scheduled or timed communications (such as welcome or gift messages)

• Process, transcribe, translate, and edit submitted content

• Organize and format stories, photos, and captions into a keepsake book

• Produce and ship the final book

• Communicate with Customers and Storytellers

• Provide support and respond to inquiries

• Improve and maintain the Services

5. Storyteller Participation and Consent

Storytellers are invited to participate by the Customer.

Participation is voluntary.

By choosing to proceed and submit stories, recordings, images, or related content, the Storyteller consents to LIAN:

• collecting and storing their information and User Content

• transcribing and translating voice recordings

• editing and organizing content

• using the content to create the keepsake book

6. Sharing of Information

We do not sell personal information.

We may share information with trusted third-party providers as necessary to deliver the Services, including:

• Data storage and hosting providers

• Transcription and translation tools

• Communication platforms (such as email delivery services)

• Payment processors (such as Stripe)

• Printing and shipping partners

These providers process information only as necessary to perform their services.

7. Third-Party Services

The Services rely on third-party platforms and tools.

We do not control these third parties and are not responsible for:

• their security practices

• service interruptions

• data loss or breaches

Your information may be processed or stored outside your country, including in jurisdictions with different data protection laws.

8. Data Storage and Security

We take reasonable measures to protect personal information.

However:

• no system is completely secure

• we cannot guarantee absolute security

• transmission of data over the internet involves inherent risks

9. Data Retention

We retain personal information and User Content for as long as necessary to:

• provide the Services

• maintain records

• comply with legal obligations

Content may be retained even if a storytelling project is incomplete.

10. Data Loss Disclaimer

While we take reasonable precautions, LIAN is not responsible for:

• loss, corruption, or unavailability of User Content

• failures of third-party storage or processing systems

Users are encouraged to retain their own copies of important materials.

11. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• request access to your personal information

• request corrections

• request deletion (subject to operational and legal limitations)

12. Children’s Privacy

The Services are not intended for individuals under the age of 16.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 16. Our services are not intended for children to use independently. Any information related to minors is provided by a parent or guardian.

Continued use of the Services constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
