Our Story

Growing up in Canada, I often found myself between languages and cultures. At home, we spoke a mix of Mandarin and English. It worked for everyday life, but I never fully understood my parents’ stories.

So much was lost in translation - the nuance, the emotion, the meaning behind their words. In English, it was hard for them to express themselves the way they wanted to.

As they grew older, I wanted to understand them more. And as a mom, I wanted my children to know them too - but most of what I found was designed for English speakers, and often required writing. It didn’t feel natural for them.

LIAN was created to change that - a meaningful way to share and preserve stories across languages, made for families like ours.
